Gua sha and ear seeds are both manual therapies that fall under the scope of practice of acupuncturists in Alberta. Therefore, insurance plans that cover acupuncture should cover these treatments when performed by our Registered Acupuncturist. However, you may wish to confirm with your insurance provider before your treatment.

Treatment Info

  • Rather than a one-on-one treatment in a private room, you'll sit in a larger room with others receiving treatment at the same time. This keeps the cost lower than private treatment.

The atmosphere is similar to a group yoga or meditation class, allowing people to experience the benefits of healing in a quiet group setting.

  • 1. Cost & frequency:

Acupuncture works best with multiple, regular treatments. The lower cost of community acupuncture makes regular treatments more accessible and affordable.

    2. Get acupuncture with friends & family:

You can receive acupuncture at the same time as a friend or family member and travel to appointments together.

    3. Comfort & healing:

Community acupuncture provides a space for people to come together to relax and heal. For many, this space provides a sense of safety, comfort, and eases social isolation.

  • Yes! Community acupuncture uses many of the same points as private acupuncture and can address every system of the body.

Community acupuncture is practiced successfully and effectively all over the world!

  • You will meet with the acupuncturist in a private office before the treatment to discuss any confidential health information.

  • Acupuncture is quite gentle! The acupuncturist uses a consent-led, trauma-informed approach and will always make sure you're comfortable as we go.

It's normal to feel a slight pinching sensation, a heavy or achy feeling, or nothing at all. These sensations usually fade after a few minutes.

Note: We offer no-needle treatments like non-invasive ear seed therapy, gua sha, and massage if you do not want needles. Book here.

  • Ear seed therapy is a needle-less alternative to acupuncture. Small seeds (from the vaccaria plant) are applied to specific acupuncture points on each ear using a hypoallergenic surgical tape. Seeds stay on for about 5-7 days and can be peeled off and discarded after use. Good for pain, anxiety, sleep issues, digestion and more. Not recommended during pregnancy.

  • Gua Sha (pronunced gwah shaw or gwah saw), is a manual medical technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine, similar to cupping, but using a dull-edged tool to scrape the skin. It can help loosen muscles or fascial adhesions, relieve muscle tension, and improve circulation to the tissues. It can also boost immune function. We offer neck and upper back treatments that are most effective for neck, shoulder and back tension, headaches, migraines, and immune support.

During pregnancy, you can still get gua sha therapy, however, the acupuncturist will avoid certain areas such as the tops of the shoulders.

  • Our massage therapist offers 45 minute therapeutic massage treatments.

  • Everyone is welcome, ages 12 and up. Your health history and other relevant information will be reviewed and treatment will be tailored to your specific needs and conditions.

During pregnancy, we do not recommend getting ear seeds. You can still get acupuncture, gua sha and massage, however the practitioner will make special adjustments.

  • Yes we do for community acupuncture! Book a free 15 minute consultation. This is a no obligation opportunity to see the space, meet the acupuncturist, ask any questions and discuss a treatment plan.

  • Acupuncture: We mostly use acupuncture points on the ears and head, lower arms and lower legs.

Loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that can be rolled up to the elbows and knees is best. There is no need to undress in community acupuncture, you can just remove your socks, and roll up your sleeves and pant legs.

Gua Sha: We will treat the neck, shoulders and upper back only.

Wear a tank top or sports bra, or other clothing that allows easy access to the upper back and shoulders. Bring a scarf to protect your neck from cold weather when you leave.

Massage: Our treatments are fully clothed and we are able to treat a variety of areas on the body. Wear something that is comfortable and nonrestrictive to the treatment area that is not too thick or heavy.

  • It depends. Many things affect treatment time, such as: the type and severity of the condition, how long it's been going on, and other health and lifestyle factors.

Most conditions benefit from a series of regular treatments, for example, 1 treatment per week for 4-8 weeks. This may be followed by a few more spaced out treatments (i.e. once per month) to help maintain results.

Your practitioner will assess you at the first visit, and make a treatment plan that works for you.
